Couples and Individuals Counsellor - RTCc

Conflict doesn't have to be the end of the story — it can be the beginning of a better one.

I work with couples and individuals navigating conflict, communication, and change. Whether you're a couple seeking deeper connection, an individual navigating difficult conversations, or new parents navigating the change that comes with bringing a child home, I offer a range of services tailored to meet you where you are.

Counselling with me is an invitation to go inward. Together, we explore who you are, where you've come from, and how your unique history has shaped the way you move through the world and your relationships. Because everyone's starting place is different, we work together to create a path forward that is uniquely yours. Understanding your past is how we find your route to where you want to go.

I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Solution-Focused Therapy. For couples, I draw from my training in Conflict Analysis and Management, as well as the Gottman Method — an evidence-based approach to building intimacy, navigating conflict, and creating lasting connection.

I believe conflict is not something to be resolved and moved past — it's an invitation to understand yourself and each other more deeply. My approach is grounded in equity, curiosity, and tailored care, holding every person in the room as equally heard, seen, and valued. My aim is to send you out more connected, more capable, and more curious than when you arrived — with skills that grow with you long after our work together ends.

Regardless of whether we are navigating dynamics between two people or an individual's personal journey, my counselling approach is collaborative and empowering — the goal is not just insight, but building the skills and the relationships that allow that insight to thrive.

A Little Bit About Kieren

My path here has been anything but linear — but it's all pointed in the same direction: understanding how people relate, and helping them do it better.

I've worked inside organizations where culture and poor leadership was quietly breaking people, cycled across Canada navigating one-off moments of intensity and fear while healing a broken heart, and spent a decade building a company and community introducing people to adventure. I've sat inside beautiful and difficult professional partnerships and romantic relationships, navigated transitions, and learned — sometimes the hard way — what it means to communicate under pressure.

In my own relationships, I've done, and continue to do the work too. It's a never-ending process — uncovering patterns, making hard decisions, starting over, healing forward. I even gave up on romantic partnership for a moment. I had a dream in which I would pursue parenthood as a single parent, and worked diligently towards that goal. Partnership took me by surprise, and after a lot of personal work I stepped into a relationship built on monthly check-ins, honest conversations, and a lot of intention. I know firsthand that our closest relationships can bring out both the best and the hardest in us — and that conflict and transition, when met with curiosity, can be an invitation rather than an ending.

But what does it take to shift conflict into something constructive? That is the question is what led me to pursuing my Masters in Conflict Analysis and Management, and into becoming a counsellor.

As I continue to learn and grow through chapters of my life, it is counselling that has become my favourite. Whether it is a couple navigating partnership, a leader navigating leadership, or an individual navigating life, the most meaningful work is the honour of sitting with someone as they get curious about their own story.

And it is the greatest honour I can imagine.
